Danny Ryan presented and I was running the demos. During the demos I showed how to:
- Use the BDC to view data external to SharePoint.
- Interact with the external data through SharePoint lists, workflows, and events.
- Create simple SharePoint Designer workflows.
- Create simple SharePoint events.
- Debug SharePoint events.
- Start SharePoint Designer workflows from SharePoint events passing in initiation parameters.
- Create mobile views.
The materials for the demo including the BDC application definition file, site template, and event code, and screenshot walkthroughs can be found here.
The BDC Application definition file included in the link above originated from http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms497572.aspx.
During the presentation I mentioned that there are tools out there to help you create BDC application definition files. One that I know of is BDC Meta Man. I have not tried this out. You should note that it is not cheap ($1200/license and the license is bound to a machine and cannot be reactivated). It does have a free trial, though.
