As promised we are continuing the favorite section of our soon to be released newsletter with an informal interview (sign up here). Danny Ryan asked me (Andi Peters) to take over, and my first victim is Chris Edwards.
Interview with Chris Edwards, ThreeWill Senior Software Engineer…
Andi – so, let’s start out with your childhood…What do you remember about being a kid?
Chris – Well, I grew up in Destin, FL so I was always doing beach activities along with baseball, soccer and running. I still love soccer. I was also really into BMX biking…you know, guys jumping ramps and such. This was at the beginning stages, when the sport was brand new. Those were some crazy days and I had to stop because it was too dangerous.
Andi – Tell me about your family.
Chris – My wife Audra and I will have been married twelve years in October. We have a 21 month old daughter named Grace. I’ll tell you something that I would never recommend…we moved into our new house and two weeks later Grace was born. I was literally in the middle of painting the baby’s room yellow when Audra said that it was time to go.
Andi – What is your favorite aspect of working here at ThreeWill?
Chris – All the guys I work with. It is going on 6 or 7 years now working with them in some manner. It is good to stay around people I like to be around. Everyone here is passionate about pursuing technology and continuing to build great relationships.
Andi – What is your favorite development topic and why?
Chris – I bounce around. One day I focus on SharePoint and the next day I focus on Workflow Foundation. Basically, I just love to get in and solve problems.
Andi – Okay Chris, think big…if you could have any super power, what would you chose and why?
Chris – Wow, I have never thought of that before. Pause. I would have to go with Super Speed. I could have fun and play jokes on people and be very productive. My wife would kill me to tell you this but one of the things we do together is watch Smallville (which is about Superman) and that is why I chose Super Speed.
Tim Coalson walks by us during the interview and interjects, “I am his hero” not knowing the subject Chris is pondering.
Andi – Tell me something that most people don’t know about you.
Chris – Some people do know, but I was actually born in England. My dad was English and he was in the American Airforce. Because I was born there and moved here, I have dual citizenship. The other thing…my wife and I had a cool experience. We were both baptized at the end of last year in front of hundreds of people….after doing a video testimony. I have been a Christian for awhile but just finally got baptized. We waited for the Browns Bridge Church to open and were the third and fourth people to be baptized there.
Andi – I assume you have TiVo…so what is stored on there?
Chris – Oprah! Dr. Phil! My wife is going to kill me. There is an occasional American Hot Rod for me. We keep up with American Idol too.
Andi – Last question and your free…what is the best advice anyone has given you?
Chris – Be careful where you sign your name. This is the first thing that popped into my head that my Dad taught me. What he meant by this is to be careful of what you commit to…take it seriously.
